  1. Structural Adjustment Policies are similar to what even Adam Smith criticized in his classic, The Wealth of Nations. Regarded as one of the "fathers" of free market capitalism, Adam Smith, in his 1776 book, while describing free market capitalism, was very critical of mercantile economics. Yet, much of what we see in Structural Adjustment policies (SAPs) can also be regarded as mercantile. A few links and updates have been added to the SAP page. SAPs (or Poverty Reduction Growth Facility as they are now called) from the IMF and World Bank have been harshly criticized for increasing poverty, rather than reducing it. Find Out More »
